Fairway is located on a 10 kilometer long extension of the Nikolai volcanics and Chitistone limestone stratigraphy which hosts the past producing McCarthy deposit in eastern Alaska. This is a native copper mineralization type with copper concentrating in tabular zones, veins and as disseminations in flow tops. At the McCarthy mine site, Kennecott produced 391,838 tons of copper and about 3,000,000 ounces of silver from a 1916-1938 mine running an average grade of around 13% copper (Douglass, History of the Kennecott Mine, 1964).
